Brian Larkin

Somewhere on the way to finishing this body of work, it occurred to me that I had an ability to extract a subject from reality and draw or paint it as if it were the only thing in the world. The "lonely look," I suppose comes from the solitude of Race Point on the outer Cape where I often do much of my work and itís a look that I share in common with other artists in Provincetown. I don't think there is anything particularly special about the look, but it does define one's artistic vision. While the sand dune landscape provides endless inspiration it also seems to internalize emotions that emerge perhaps later in another place.

Ponto de Vista, completed only recently, evolved out of a walk along Baker St. in Provincetown where I found a discarded tin ceiling. The whole history of that ceiling and what it saw over a period of time took on a life of its own. The sensual response to the pattern on that ceiling became a portal to another reality that embraced and engaged me in a dialogue with time.
